3 Ingredients to Homemade Sourdough Starter: Flour, Water, Patience- DAY 4

Oh snap! I didn't get to feed the starter early this morning. It is a good thing once the yeast starts forming the starter is quite forgiving, as you can see. I fed 4 ounces water, 4 ounces flour in the late afternoon and put it right back on the shelf in my office. The jar is getting full and the "smelly goods" are growing but not good enough yet to bake with. When I get home later tonight I will stir it again but not add anything. Stirring incorporates air which is beneficial for growth, so feel free to stir your starter at any time.

I tried to keep this hooch stirred up into the starter as much as I could today. I know I have said it doesn't matter, but it bugs me for some reason. If you want to keep yours stirred up too, by all means, go for it. If not... well then, don't.  Don't you wish everything in life could be this simple?  Me too!

If you have been pouring out the hooch instead of stirring it up into the starter you probably do not have as much starter in the jar as I do. I plan to reduce the volume in my jar tomorrow! Stay tuned for Day 5!
